Spring is in the air, which in yachting means one thing. We’re on the cusp of yet another Mediterranean yacht charter season. Industry professionals from around the world are packing their suitcases and preparing to descend on the yachting hubs of southern France, Barcelona, and the Balearic Islands, for highly anticipated shows that herald the start of another summer and showcase not only the best yachts for sale and charter, but also the finest yachting related services such as the latest tenders and toys and gourmet provisioning. This year is already shaping up as a successful one with two new yacht shows added to the calendar as well as established shows celebrating memorable milestones.
Interactivity, Innovation and Engagement
It comes as no surprise that the Large Yacht Brokers Association (LYBRA) have opted to launch a client-focused show this spring. The Superyacht Show will take place in Barcelona’s world-class OneOcean Port Vell from May 2nd to 5th. The idea behind the show is to actually get clients on board the superyachts for sale and charter. This innovative concept is great for those who are planning a yacht charter this summer in the Mediterranean as it enables potential owners and charterers to get a real feel for each luxury yacht on display. The high level of interactivity in this show promises to enhance the client experience. There will also be the opportunity to sample exclusive high-end products and meet boutique suppliers that have been hand selected by show organisers to exhibit at the event.
Another new yacht show for 2018 is Marina High Tech. The result of an ongoing conversation between marine protection stakeholders in the South of France, the event takes place on the 24th and 25th May in Villeneuve-Loubet. The show focuses on innovation in the marine industry and has a unique view on sustainable development, with a specific accent on green yachting and reducing human impact on marine life. A series of educational rounds tables are scheduled, as well as traditional exhibitor stands to highlight and discuss the importance of protecting our marine environment for future generations. The show will open up an important debate and establish common ground for the yachting industry and marine protection services for a better, shared future.
Yacht Sales and Charter Shows
The MYBA Charter Show will be celebrating its 30th edition this year, so expect to see some celebrations in Barcelona as yacht crew show off their skills in a stunning setting. This year’s event takes place from the April 23rd to 26th in Barcelona’s OneOcean Port Vell. The industry-only event allows yacht brokers to experience first-hand some of the finest yachts for charter this Mediterranean season. One of the highlights of the show is the annual Chef’s competition, which involves the preparation and presentation of five finger foods to a panel of judges. The competition is a lot of fun as chefs create spectacular, bite-size nibbles that not only tantalise the palate but are a pleasure to the eye as well. There are also other competitions for yacht crew including a ‘tablescaping’ competition for the interior team and, new this year, a Meet and Greet competition.
Another firm fixture on the calendar is the Palma Yacht Show focusing on yachts that are over 24m. Renowned for its laid-back atmosphere, this year the show is being held between April 27th and May 1st in Palma. There will be over 50 international exhibitors present, showcasing a mix of sailing and power boats.
